About Mike Kanze

Robert Michael (Mike) Kanze's business experience spans supply chain management, operational controllership and organizational change management. Mike brings to his clients the insights gained from over 35 years of helping organizations and their leaders save money and create strategic advantage.

Prior to his consulting work Mike held positions of progressive responsibility with The Procter & Gamble Company (2009 sales - over $79 billion). There Mike managed eight-figure supply chains and mastered commodity domains ranging from packaging materials, new product raw materials development, and capital machinery, to contract packaging and manufacturing services and environmental remediation and waste management services.  Mike later became the financial manager at P&G’s Folger Coffee facility in California. Further work included finance project leadership within P&G, introducing a new manufacturing expense accounting system that covered over ten plants and handled over $2 billion in annual transactions.

Immediately after earning his undergraduate degree, Mike was commissioned a Navy officer and flew in a carrier-based A-6 attack squadron, making one combat deployment.

In 2008, Mike earned the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation from the Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) - one of the first persons to do so.  CPSM certification signifies a broad and strategic view of supply chain management. It is also evidence of a commitment to continuously improving mastery of the supply chain management body of knowledge. In this, Cornerstone’s clients and partners know that they are receiving the highest quality advice and assistance.

Mike is also a Lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) and a Lifetime Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.), both awarded by the Institute for Supply Management™.  He holds a BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley and a MBA in general management from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. Mike is a past Board member of the Northern California chapter of the IMC, NAPM - Cincinnati and IMA - Peninsula/Palo Alto chapters.

Mike has been a regular speaker at organizations ranging from SCORE to the US Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey.  He instructs in general management, organizational behavior, corporate culture, strategic supply management and global sourcing and procurement in the on-campus programs of the University of Phoenix.
